Daily Painting - Still Life- Thistle

Thistle 5 in. x 7 in. Oil On Panel - Bid on or buy this painting.

The subject is a thistle in a clear glass decanter. Every week I try to do one painting that is a stretch from the norm. Today was the day for this week. As far as plants and flowers go the thistle doesn't get a whole lot of respect, get one in your yard and out comes the Round-up or shovel. But honestly if you really look at them they are interesting plants, and bees absolutely love them. This one came from a patch of thistles in a field down the road. I brought it home and wasn't sure how I was going to paint it, and I ended up putting it in this cognac decanter. I think that the contrast of this rough, thorny flower in the thin, fragile decanter is really neat. By the time I finished I really loved the painting. Kind of reminds me of Braveheart if you remember the thistle scenes. I hope that you enjoy it.
